Day 1: Arrival in Cape Town.

Our shuttle service will be at the airport to give you a warm South African welcome.

  • Depending on your arrival time, we will do a short guided tour of Cape Town's city center before driving you through the heart of the historic winelands to the border of the Klein Karoo, to the town of roses, wine, and Muskadel: Montagu.

Day 2: Acclimatising with a Wine-Tasting Tour in the Robertson Wine Valley

We will visit up to 4 wine estates, each with its own unique style. These range from large wineries that produce millions of litres per year to smaller ones where you can create, bottle, and label your own wine.

Day 3: Exploring Route 62 and the Great Karoo

We leave Montagu, the beginning of Route 62—the longest wine route—early in the morning. Traveling along majestic mountains, we work our way up further towards the Great Karoo, stopping at Ronnie’s Sex Shop, a bar in the middle of nowhere.
Oudtshoorn is home to South Africa’s ostrich farm industry and the world-famous Cango Caves. After lunch and spotting the hippopotamuses, we are ready for our first bush safari.

  • You can expect to experience true Karoo vegetation from our open game-viewing vehicles. Our wide range of animals includes hippos, giraffes, elands, zebras, buffalo, springboks, and much more. The duration of our bush safaris is approximately 2 hours.
  • About midway through the safari, there is a refreshment break at one of our scenic lookout points, offering 360° panoramic views of the area as well as the Swartberg Mountains.

Day 4: Morning Bush Safari and Exploring the Cango Caves

  • Before breakfast, our morning bush safari awaits, in search of rhinoceroses, giraffes, elands, zebras, buffaloes, springboks, and more.
  • After breakfast, we drive towards the Swartberg Mountains for a guided visit to the renowned Cango Caves. The 20-million-year-old Cango Caves system consists of a series of hidden chambers cut deep into a thick limestone rock layer.
  • We return to the dam for lunch, followed by our Elephant Experience.
  • Dinner at the dam.

Day 7: Coastal Safari and Whale Serenade: A Day of Wildlife Wonders

Today marks another unforgettable journey as we embark on a 3.5-hour safari through a sprawling reserve, teeming with an incredible variety of wildlife. Prepare to encounter rhinos, lions, elephants, giraffes, cheetahs, and more! Keep your senses sharp and your camera at the ready – you never know what captivating sight awaits around the next bend. As we traverse the reserve, tune in to the symphony of nature with over 200 bird species filling the air with their enchanting melodies.

Our adventure continues from Big5 Adventures as we make our way towards Hermanus. En route, we pass Cape Agulhas, the southernmost tip of Africa, where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans converge. Driving through vast farmlands and alongside majestic mountains, our journey leads us to the coast. From July to November, Hermanus becomes the playground for southern right whales, boasting the unique tradition of a Whale-Cryer to announce their majestic presence.

Driving alongside the scenic Botrivier Lagoon, our journey leads us to the renowned Whale Route, guiding us to the authentic penguin colony of the Cape at Stoney Point. Continuing along what many have hailed as one of the most stunning coastal roads, we arrive at Gordons Bay, nestled at the foothills of the Hottentots Mountains.

As False Bay gives way to the majestic Cape of Good Hope, we follow the breathtaking coastal road to the Cape of Good Hope National Park. This iconic point marks the juncture where a ship begins its journey more eastward than southward. From the historic Lighthouse, our path winds through the captivating Cape Peninsula, ultimately leading us back to the vibrant city of Cape Town.
