Our 6-day private Garden Route Tour from Cape Town is a safe and affordable way to explore the Western Cape, Little Karoo, Whale Route, Addo Elephant National Park and Route 62. Tour the Garden Route while experiencing a good mix of nature, culture and adventure. This trip will give you a good first taste of some of the best things the spectacular Garden Route has to offer. This tour starts & ends in Cape Town and includes REAL game drives where the animals are not caged or enclosed, but where they are natural free roaming.

We depart from Cape Town early in morning for Hermanus. We follow the scenic coastal road and stop at Betties Bay to view a colony of endangered African penguins. You can spend the afternoon in the seaside resort town of Hermanus, famous for hundreds of Southern Right Whales during the whale season (July to November) and many shops, restaurants and markets. In the afternoon we will drive on to Cape Agulhas, the most southern tip of Africa, where we visit a viewpoint known as the “real” place where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meet. Via wide stretched Farmlands, along mountains our trips takes us away from the coast down to the very start of the Route 62.

* (Shark cage diving clients will be picked up very early in the morning by the diving operator, and will miss the first half of Day 1 which includes the visit to the African Penguin Colony and Hermanus)
We leave Montagu, the beginning of the Route 62, the longest wine route, early in the morning. Along majestic mountains we work our way up further towards the Great Karoo, to find Ronnie’s Sex Shop, a bar in the middle of nowhere as our on-route stop. Before crossing one of the most beautiful off-road mountain passes in South Africa, the ostriches in Oudtshoorn, the Ostrich Capital of the World, await our visit. We will even find ourselves underground exploring the Cango caves with a guided tour. We bid the ostriches of the Karoo a farewell, before going off-road again on the Montagu Pass for some breath-taking spectacular mountains and valleys.

Our trip today will take us over the Provincial Borders, driving along the Indian Ocean via Wilderness National Park, Knysna, Garden Route National Park, Tsisikamma National Park all the way down to Addo Elephant park in the Eastern Cape. En route we will stop at Bloukrans Bridge to view the world’s highest bungee jump bridge (216 meters). There is plenty of time for the adventure seekers among you to test their courage. At 15:00 we start our first free roaming Big5 game drive, followed by bush campfire dinner and a night game drive.

We will spend the morning exploring Addo Elephant National Park. On an additional game drive up to 2-3 hours exploring the 28,000 hectare National reserve with approximately 600 elephant and some Cape buffalo, lion, black rhino, warthog, zebra, eland, kudu, hartebeest and many more animals. After an exciting morning of game viewing we will drive back to the start of the Garden Route where we will overnight at Tsitsikamma Lodge.

Our coastal trips continues after a visit to the Tsitsikamma National Park and a walk on the suspension bridge. Before leaving the warm waters of the Indian Ocean and the green forests, we will head to the famous town of Knysna via the lavish Lake District of the Garden Route. This up-market little town is filled with curios, restaurants and a waterfront, where you will be able to relax and do some shopping.

After breakfast, we can spend some time in Mossel Bay on the spectacular beaches, hike the Cape St. Blaize trail along the cliffs overlooking the Indian Ocean, and visit the famous Diaz Museum complex, commemorating the first known European exploration around the tip of Africa. The more adventurous can try a 10,000 foot tandem skydive or sandboarding on the longest dune in South Africa. We will arrive back to Cape Town in the early evening.

- For this trip we use only comfortable air-conditioned Land Rover Discovery’s.
- Each Land Rover can take up to 4 passengers, the larger your group the less the cost per person will be.
- The total distance driven during this trip will be close to 1960 km’s.
- Our tours take place in a Malaria free area. No anti-malaria precautions are therefore necessary. You are however advised to bring insect repellent during the summer.
- All our drivers speak fluent English and Dutch.
- Please provide a variety in clothing.
